In recent years, a state has issued license plates using a combination of two letters of the alphabet followed by three digits, followed by another two letters of the alphabet. How many different license plates can be issued using this configuration?

OpenStudy (kinggeorge):

Well, divide this into parts. First, how many possibilities of the first two letters are there? Then how many possibilities of three numbers, and finally, how many possibilities of the two ending letters.

456976000

OpenStudy (kinggeorge):

As for the actual formula...\[26^2 \cdot 10^3 \cdot 26^2\]should be what you get in the end. \(26^2\) possibilities for the first two letters, \(10^3\) for the numbers, and \(26^2\) for the last two numbers.
