Dark matter can be described as matter that _______. A. does not exert gravitational force but can be detected with light B. exerts gravitational force and makes up most of the stars and planets C. cannot be detected and does not emit or absorb light
I think it's A
k thnk u. :)
The answer is C. Dark matter cannot be detected with light. If it is detected, its existence would be confirmed and it would not stay just as a hypothesized theory. It is also another reason why they call it dark.
The only reason we think it exists is because it does exert gravitational force. It is the missing mass needed to explain the amount of gravitational force in galaxies, etc.
Dark matter has not been directly measure/detected
None of the above. It would be B if the option was "exerts gravitational force and makes up most of the Universe"
I dont think we can speculate that dark matter makes up the stars and planets if it has not been observed
Dark matter can be detected gravitationally - this is how we know it is there. One candidate for dark matter is planet like objects.
The rotation curves of galaxies suggests that the dark matter is present.
It dark matter fills in gaps in the equations for rotating galaxies but that is not detection. There is some doubt that the equations being used are perfect.
In galaxy clusters, dark matter in the cluster accounts for some of the mass needed to create the gravitational lensing that we see. But again, that's not detecting it. It's just seeing the effects of it.
i dont really like A. B. or C.
That is how things are detected - through their effects. I do agree though that little is known about what the dark matter is.
Or dark matter doesn't exist and we need to come up with a new theory of gravity.
Much less likely.
Keaplurin i like that answer better
I like to stay open to all possibilities. Like Dark Energy ... maybe, again, a new theory of gravity would explain that also.
i hate the concept of have no chance of ever experiencing most of the universe , it seems like a weak argument to me
I agree!
ill be study this stuff this session at uni, i hope to understand it all better,
I'm trying to keep learning about it also. Good luck in your studies.
