a person in history that you feel should be honored for their contributions to mankind. I have know idea who I should write about any ideas
... You can't name a single person who you feel has contributed to mankind? Any number of the US founding fathers set up a guideline for future Republics to follow, and this in turn has dramatically changed the world. The late John Lennon attempted to use his influence in the arts to spread a message of peace and love. Henry Ford was the first to master the potential of the assembly line, and popularized the automobile, transforming transportation forever. Both Bill Gates and Steve Jobs popularized the personal computer and made it useful for anyone to own one, these two are probably the biggest reasons we're talking to eachother right now. I'm American so I named mostly American icons, but there's hundreds of more people that have changed history, of all different religious and ethnic backgrounds, take your pick.
You can also write about Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He was the apostle of non-violence, and was largely successful in bringing peace to India and Pakistan. Despite getting nominated several times, he was never awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He believed in truth, love and friendship. All his life, all he used was a walking stick to protest against British rule in India. And, he was quite successful. He became the representative of the Indian masses(one-fifth of the world's population at that time). Read up about him.
