What is the area of the shaded portion?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (paxpolaris):

diameter of circle is 15 m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

area= area of square-area of circle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

area of the sq minus the area of the circle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

choices a 48.4 m^2 b 49.1 m^2 c 128.3 m^2 d 177.9m^2

Directrix (directrix):

Shaded Area = Square Area - Circle Area Shade = 15*15 - (3.14) (7.5)^2 Shade = 225 - 176.625 = 48.375

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so A?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well don't you agree that the Area of the shaded portion is just the area of the square take away the area of the circle? A of rectangle - A of Circle (L)(W) - pi(r)^2 the Diameter and the Height just happens to be 15 meters, so 15^2 - pi (7.5)^2 = 48.3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a

Directrix (directrix):

a 48.4 m^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

area of the square - area of the circle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's 48.3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so option a is the ans
