The length of a rectangle is 6 in. less than twice its width. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 72 in., find the dimensions of the rectangle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer from the book says the width is 14 and length 22

Directrix (directrix):

I messed up by not reading carefully: length of a rectangle is 6 in. less than** twice** its width.

Directrix (directrix):

Let w be the width of the rectangle. Then, the length is 2w - 6. Perimeter is the sum of the lengths of the sides of the rectangles. Recall that opposite sides have the same measures. 2w - 6 + 2w - 6 + w + w = 72 6w - 12 = 72 6w = 84 w = 14 and l = 2*14 - 6 = 22 14 by 22

ooh , i messed up with basic,. how ridiculous,. so careless. .lol

Directrix (directrix):

@ jerwyn --> 90= 6x --> addition error

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha, yeah. sorry for that directrix, perhaps, because i'm totally stressed. .lol

Directrix (directrix):

@Jerwyn --> at least you can read the problem. That's more than I can say.:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks for that. .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks Directrix and jerwyn gayo thanks for trying

Directrix (directrix):

@jerwyn --> We don't guarantee our work but we guarantee that we will try. :)
