I'm doing this same assignment. I tired the birds but they were hard for me to figure so I'm doing the insects and I'm almost done with it, I could help you with the insect one if you don't mind changing to the insect.

I did the birds, they seemed really easy to me. The only thing I had trouble with was the cladogram. (I did this assignment yesterday)
