Solve the equation. CHECK YOUR SOLUTION! (t+11)/(t-11) = (11t+121)/t^2-6t-55)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By checking your solution, I mean just plug the answer into the equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

t=6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And as for checking it...?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Maybe I can try.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

17/-6 = 11 * 17/11*-6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

put your t=6 back into the equation for t. Tip: factor (11t+121)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm trying to do that. I know how to do it, I'm just trying to figure out what you'd end up getting.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean, I'm working on what you would get after plugging in the 6.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, if you factor (11t+121)/t^2-6t-55) it really clear. you see that one side is proportional to the other

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Example, doing 6 plus 11, and getting 17, and then doing 6 minus 11, and getting -5, so that fraction becomes 17/-5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, OK, let me try that...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are correct 17/-5 factor the other side and you will find that it just (11*17)/(11 * -5 )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK, now for the second one, I am getting 187/-55

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And I divide the second fraction by 11... And it's equivalent to the first one!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea, 187 / 11 = 17 amd -55/11 is -5 SO, the right side is 17/-5 multiplied by 1 ( 11/11 ) see?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I do see. Thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

rock on! just try to have fun with it!
