Eric is planning to paint the four pillars that are attached to the front of his house. But, he needs to know how many square feet he'll be painting before he buys the paint. The pillars are each 10 feet tall and have a 1-foot diameter. What is the square footage that he'll be painting? [Note: Eric will not be painting the ends of the pillars.] (Use 3.14 for π.)

assume that the pillars are cylindrical..you're looking for the lateral surface area correct? to get the lateral surface area, you use the formula LSA = 2rh(pi) where r is radius h is height substitute the values... h = 10 d = 1 so r =1/2 so LSA = 2 (1/2)(10)(3.14) LSA = 10(3.14) LSA = 31.4 sq ft :D
