Alex is establishing his beneficiaries for his life insurance policy. The policy is for $150,000.00 and 1/2 will go to his daughter, 3/8 will go to his stepson, and the rest will go to his grandson. What dollar amount will go to the grandson? (Please explain step-by-step)

OpenStudy (sasogeek):

well do you know the amounts his daughter and stepson will get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, I need those steps as well. If that's ok?

OpenStudy (sasogeek):

well you've been given a fraction of what each person gets. the daughter gets half, the stepson get's 3/8 ... and the remaining goes to the grandson. what is half of 150,000? what is 3/8 of 150,000? do you know how to find those 2 amounts?

Refresh my memory? Lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

75k will go to the daughter 18750 will go to the grandson 56250 will go to the stepsom I think this is the answer. Someone should check my math to be absolutely sure

OpenStudy (sasogeek):

I think I told you not to solve it angeldark... you're not even sure if your answer is right... i'm trying to get her involved in solving it so she understands it.

OpenStudy (sasogeek):

@LynnMichael if the daughter got half of the amount, it means that she got \(\large \frac{1}{2} \times 150000 = 75000 \) use the same idea to find how much the stepson got

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you! :)

OpenStudy (sasogeek):

that's not the final answer... i hope u know that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know. Lol
