What was a result of the Hollywood Ten trial?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The ten defendants were found guilty and the trial made blacklisting someone and, eventually, putting them on trial for their political beliefs, acceptable. It stomped all over their civil rights and would only get worse from there. Many in Hollywood who were simply suspected of having communist sympathies, even if they may have only attended one meeting years ago, or who even knew of others that had them could lose their jobs by being denounced. It was like a witch hunt, only in this case, you could be put on trial for simply appearing to be "un-American". Everyone starting seeing communism as the boogey man hiding behind every white picket fence when our relationship with the Soviet Union worsened after WW2.
