what is the difference between differentiate and derivate?

sam (.sam.):

Differentiation is a process. Derivative is the result obtained from differentiation. \[y = 2x ^{3}\] \[\frac{dy}{dx} = 6x ^{2}\] is the derivative obtained by differentiation.

He asked what the difference was between the words "differentiate" and "derivate". Those two words are simply synonyms for the command "Take the derivative of a given function".

I do not think there is a word called derivate

OpenStudy (precal):

In calculus, we do use the word derivative. I believe the asker had a typo
