OpenStudy (aravindg):

i cant search some of the groups in search box .you see my group name IIT study group is not available when i search for it??whats the problem>?

OpenStudy (ash2326):

@AravindG unofficial groups can't be searched now. If you want someone to join it , just give them the link to it. :) Thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have already told user created groups are disabled you can access only if you are currently in that group or someone posts a link to it

OpenStudy (aravindg):

is this change temperorary?

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

@AravindG - No, this is a permanent change to the site. We're moving toward re-centralizing everything under the Official Groups. The user-created groups fragmented the community and were used to abuse the service more often than not. For that reason, we have no intention of re-enabling user created groups anytime soon. I would recommend posting your questions in the relevant official groups.

OpenStudy (aravindg):

not all user created groups were bad. my group IIT study group is very useful to students from india. there are lively activities there which makes OS name stand higher.

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

I'm sure that is the case, but what are the benefits of putting these conversations in that group as opposed to using the official Computer Science group?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

IIT is not only for computer science :D (I think they don't need computer science at all for preparing for their exam) it's Indian Institutes of Technology but of course they can just go to other groups math, physics, chemistry and ask questions there and speaking about groups there are a lot of official groups which are useless and not used, so other users can join one of those and do their "business" and after all it's not a rocket science to join any already created non-official group :D

OpenStudy (aravindg):

tomas is right ..IIT aspirants are a special species of persons. a group specially for them makes the qns related to the IIT syllabus .and more inputs can be given. Its like MIT in India. other groups like physics chemistry(which i am already a member) are more generalised. and here's something interesting : some people joined OS bcoz they searched in internet "IIT study group" and found my group in the main list.In that way my group has done wonders!many students of my age thanked me for making the group.its a collaboration of various students across Inida with the common aim. They share links ,book infos and much more infop in this specialised group.

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

Hey Aravind, If that is so, then you may want to consider petitioning us to adopt it as an official group. Granted, for the time being unofficial groups will still appear in Google Search, but that won't be the case for long. The problem is we're moving in the direction of changing how groups work entirely. So, I don't know if we will consider adopting this as an official group. You should email contact@openstudy.com and give us some information about your group. Really it all boils down to the fact that this is something we'll have to discuss as a team.

OpenStudy (aravindg):

i like the way my group is

OpenStudy (aravindg):

thanks @farmdawgnation
