One way of solving is by cross-multiplying. Multiply numerator of the fraction on the left by the denominator of the fraction on the right and set that product equal to the product of the denominator of the fraction on the left and the numerator of the fraction on the right. You would have 3b=48. Then, divide both sides by 3 and get b=16.

ok this was my fault so sorry.. i looked at two dif problems D: its originally 3/4=21/2+d.....

You would multiple 3 by 2+d and set that equal to the product of 4 and 21. So, 3(2+d) = 4(21). Distributing the 3, you then have 6+3d = 84. 3d = 78. d = 26.
