Estimate the limit numerically. lim x→−2 x2 + 4x + 4 x + 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x2 + 4x + 4 -------------- x + 2 I plugged in -2 to the equation and the fraction contains a zero on the bottom, so I typed in does not exist, but it says it is wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's not so simple, you must first factor out the x + 2 from the top and bottom. Which will give you (x+2)(x+2)/(x+2). Factoring out will give you (x+2)/1 which then the limit would = 0.

OpenStudy (barrycarter):

Estimate numerically means use values CLOSE to -2, not -2 itself!

Nothing is closer to -2 than -2, but use whatever. -1.9?
