1. Why is the sky blue 2. Why sunrise and sunset red-orange in color? 3. Why oceans are greenish-blue 4. Why does the sun rises in the east and sets in the west?
sky is blue because of reflection of sea water
I think that is wrong shiwani.
the answer for all the first three questions is because of refraction of light through various media(bending of light because of difference in density of mediums) the water at few places are green because there is more scattering effect of that particular light of that wavelength(red having the most wavelegth that will explain sun rise and sun set too) if u are wondering how only ocean water appears green at few places,it is because of differential bending of light at diffenerent levels of sea water(colloidal substances) also an apt explanation wud be that the density of sea water increases with depth beacuse of saalt, minerals and othere deposits)
http://www.sciencemadesimple.com/sky_blue.html see under why is sky blue for more explanation and discovery about the scattering effect variation during different times of the day
Rayleigh scattering! Wonderful phenomenon, can explain first 3. And because the earth is rotating around its axis, the rotation is such that east comes first.
thanks
this arouses a ques in my mind why is the rainbow arc shaped..............?
