An economy is a social relation. Karl marx said that the economy is a social relation that is not material but is all the more objective and real. Our society and the values that perpetuate and maintain our status quo usually do so to prop up our economic reality. Consider the values that capitalism needs to create good workers and you will also find that those same characteristics are those a what we all consider a" good american." Also, the government and the political system maintains and props up property rights for the ruling class. That is their primary role. Everything else is just fluff. Even those wars that are fought for "freedom" are really fought for capitalist interest.
