OpenStudy (aravindg):

what is flywheel?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A flywheel is nothing but solid wheel. It'll store mechanical or rotational energy and release uniformly. If you know about engine, except power stroke during other strokes there's no uniform energy in crank shaft. If you attach a heavy wheel in it, it'll store the energy during power stroke and continue in the other three strokes. Or simply, if you see the toy car which'll run after a initial start up and emitting light, contains a heavy wheel. That also fly wheel. If you remove it and runs, then the car won;t move that much effectively.

ennikum fly-wheelnum kore connection undu arvind!............pazhaya memories! it is a wheel which can tap energy from its rotation so as to convert it into another form of energy to do work however it is mostly just a wheel that rotates(can be a disk or one with spokes as in a cycle)

OpenStudy (aravindg):

wel why do we call it flywheel??we can call it wheel or disc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is a special term used to denote that wheels of these kind can actually be made to convert energy from one form to another with help of some connection to the wheel

OpenStudy (aravindg):

like that wheel inside the toy car??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah u give it a turn then the rotaional energy(given by ur muscles) gets converted to mechanical energy

OpenStudy (aravindg):

look at my other qn on radius of gyration i have asked a qn inside it pls answer
