im assuming you only want the area of the yellow shaded portion

First, must find the area of the larger triangle
we use the pyth theorem to find the full base of that larger one = 15

A larger = 1/2 * b *h = 1/2 *15 * 9 = 67.5

area of smaller dotted in triangle
= 1/2 * b * h = 1/2 * 3 * 9 = 13.5

Note: if entire base is 15 - yellow trianlge is 12 then sm dotted triange base is 3

now subtract 67.5 - 13.5 = 54.0

that is the area of the yellow shaded triangle
