Use the quadratic formula:
\[\large x=\frac{-(b)\pm\sqrt{(b)^{2}-4(a)(c)}}{2(a)} \]
& sub it it in:
\[a = 1 ; b =-5;c=-1\]

\[x = \frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2 - 4ac}}{2a}\]
