Finds the value(s) of c if...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{a+b}{b+c}=\frac{c+d}{d+a}\]

OpenStudy (mertsj):

\[\frac{-b-d \pm \sqrt{b^2+2bd+d^2+4a^2+4ad+4ab}}{2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

tricky c = a cross multiply a + b = b + c a = c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer is 5, or -5-b-d, but i have no idea how to get there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

weird they they could come up wth a value like 5 if no numercal values provided by others?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have no idea either, i'm guessing it's a mistake because c could equal any number

OpenStudy (mertsj):

How does c = a?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cross multiplied and assume that one side equal other side

OpenStudy (mertsj):

I put it in Wolfram and they solved it by completing the square and got the same thing I got by using the quadratic formula.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im pretty sure you did good - note his answer is 5. Good Job.
