Hey VenomGhost,

We're going to be introducing more and more features over the next few releases that bring more intimacy to the fan relationship. Presently, you can use people you're a fan of as a type of filter for who can @ mention you in a question. By default, anyone can do it, but you can change your settings so that only people you've fanned can @ mention you.

We've got related things like that in the pipeline as well.

Yup, fans are both personally validating (for me at least ;), as well as opens the door to a lot of the new features we have. Like @farmdawgnation mentioned, it allows you to 'mention' a user. You can also see when people you've fanned are online (the fan icon in the upper left). Also, more to come :-). Thanks @VenomGhost
