Is there a way to search already answered questions? I mean I want to type and search a pattern that may have answered a doubt of my own so I don't have to ask again
This is exactly what I'd like to see, a way to search previously posted questions and answers. It would be so very helpful.
I think you can put your question and then just "openstudy.com" or "openstudy" and if there was anything it would come up.. Not 100 percent on that though.. I actually found OpenStudy searching for a question that someone on here had asked.. I posted somequestion with "studygroup" after and openstudy came up..
alright :) I'll use Google with filters for now but It should be taken into consideration for the site right ? thanks to all of you such quick answers :)
Hey VenomGhost, The reason we haven't implemented this is because we don't see ourselves as a knowledge base. The goal on OpenStudy isn't specifically to get a question answered, like it is on Yahoo! Answers or related sites. The goal here is to have a high quality of interaction and learning with someone who knows what you need to know. This is the reason we haven't implemented search at this point, and I'm not sure we ever will. Our focus is on the immediate, detailed interaction between help-seeker and help-giver. Thanks for your suggestion though. We're constantly re-evaluating how the tools we provide support our mission. We'll continue to keep search in mind as a a candidate as we do that over the next few months.
But what happens frequently for me is I need to return to a previously commented-on matter and either add to it or draw from it. I may have come across something else that pertains to a question I responded to, for example. Or here's a recent one -- I had provided a lengthy discussion on the subjunctive, when the very same question came up with another student. I wanted to locate my previous response so that I could use it again. (This was not for the purpose of providing a direct answer to the question. Rather, it was a discussion of the concepts.) Having a search feature would be so very useful in cases such as this.
Also, @farmdawgnation I was thinking, what about a topic bumping mechanism, for questions that remain unanswered or if there is more to add for more people to see along with the search feature, i know that it will be overexploited in spamming but there can be some restrictions right?
uhmmmm Thanks for the answer I'm sure you'll come up with a solution that satisfies both parties after all the site is great
@arcticf0x - A mechanism like that is on our list of possible options to help with unanswered questions. We've got a few top priority things that are coming out of the gate first, then we've got a hodgepodge of different ideas that we're weighing to help deal with unanswered questions that we're going to start working on.
I think it would also be nice to have a collection of answered questions on a topic. This way, if someone is looking for examples or wants to practice that specific topic, they can just look at those questions, try to solve them, and compare their answers to the given answers. I do realize that this wouldn't work in the mathematics group atm. And it would require some way to split those math topics up. Also, it might be nice to have an explanation about how to solve those problems in general or maybe link to Khanacademy videos. (if that is an option) So, for example, have a study group on … equations So this could have a link to the video series on khanacademy.org And the tabs could include: all question, unanswered questions, popular questions. Where popular question could be the ones that had the most votes.
Maybe tags could help there, but that is off path to OpenStudy idea.
