Explain the importance of biodiversity.

Biodiversity refers not only to all the species of life beings or all of the ecosystems that forms the biosphere, but also to individuals and specifically to their genes. Every life being is unique and unrepeatable, has a particular gene combining, except of twins and clones. These differences are know as gentic diversity.

Biodiversity in an ecosystem generally introduces more plant and animal species and means a healthier ecosystem. It is generally more able to withstand droughts and other less than friendly natural happening

Almost exclusivly all of the medicine throughout the ages up to today has come from plantlife or animal life, aquatic life. Very few has been synthesised from scratch. Let's take Penicillin for instance, it comes from a type mold which seemed to be unaffected by bacteria. a for us useless lifeform gave us the biggest breathrough in medicine we had up to this date. I hope this gives you a insight of the importance.
