OpenStudy (beth12345):

Two girls are fighting over a boyfriend. Mary pulls John toward the north with a force of 80.0N, while Gertrude pulls him toward the west with a force of 150.0N What is the resultant of the two forces acting on John? Assume John has been 'swept off his feet' and can offer no effective resistance by pushing against the ground.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is similar to the ant problem. Can you apply the same idea here?

OpenStudy (beth12345):

um i don't know

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Step 1: draw yourself a diagram, show the forces Step 2: in the diagram, add up the forces Step 3: Quantitatively find the resultant force

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In the ant problem, to forces were acting a right angles to each other. It's the same situation here.
