what does continuous and discontinuous function means? any example?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can we say that at at some value of x it could have two values of y then it's a discontinuous function for example at x= 2 the y is -2 & 4

i hope this will help http://www.intmath.com/functions-and-graphs/7-continuous-discontinuous-functions.php

if you have two output values for a given input it doesn't meet the definition of a function. continuity is about the limit and function value being equal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a function F(x) is continuous at x=a if the limit as x ->a exists and is equal to the value of the function there F(a)

what class is this for? I guess the best definition to give you depends on which course you are taking
