OpenStudy (anonymous):

1. Which of the following is a goal of the U.S. Space Shuttle program? A. get astronauts to permanent space stations B. deliver satellites for exploratory research C. both a and b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2. The International Space Station is designed to let astronauts stay for about ______. A. 6 months B. 1 year C. several years

OpenStudy (nottim):

Obviously, I think you should do your research. But I think not too much research is required; just go to their website. I'm afraid that I'll give you a wrong answer, so I won't give what I think is right.

I don't think the space shuttle delivered satellites. Satellites are usually launched with their own rocket. The space shuttle took astronauts to the space station and on repair missions to Hubble, etc. Maybe their website will mention satellites I wasn't aware of.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The Space Shuttle definitely delivers satellites. For example the Hubble. See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Shuttle_program#Shuttle_applications The ISS can support astronauts for several years (it has been occupied for over 11 years straight now. These 11 years consisted of several crews, not one person.) A typical mission lasts for about 6 months due to the effects zero gravity have on the human body, particularly the muscles.

Google it out friend!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol i did

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh! Thanks eashmore. I didn't know the space shuttle delivered Hubble.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Indeed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hubble_Space_Telescope There have been a couple of missions to repair and update the Hubble as well. Interestingly enough, one time a repair was made on some insulation using Parachute Cord. Simple, creative solutions to difficult problems. Gotta love it.
