Two similar cones are shown in the image below. What is the approximate surface area of the larger cone? Answer 978.5 square yards 1,103.1 square yards 1544.4 square yards 2,162.3 square yards
@Directrix
can u help me with this one
SA of the cone = pi r L + B where r is the radius of the base, B is the area of the base, and L is the slant height of the solid. SA = pi (9) (30) + pi r^2. SA = pi (9) (30) + pi (9)^2 SA = pi (9) (30) + pi (9)^2 SA = 351 pi + 81 pi SA = 351 pi ---> surface area of smaller cone. 351 pi = 1 102.70 The scale factor of the two similar cones is 42/30 = 7/5. For similar solids, the square of the scale factor = the ratio of the surface areas of the solids. (7/5)^2 = x/(1 102.70) where x is the surface area of the larger cone. 25 x = 1 102.70 * (49) x = 2161.3
Answer: 2,162.3 square yards I rounded for pi twice which caused my answer to be slightly off. I apologize for the length of time required for me to crank this out.
