The nucleus regulates all cell activity. It does this by controlling the enzymes present. The chromatin is composed of DNA. DNA contains the information for the production of proteins.

I'd like to add a little bit to Harkirat's answer - chromatin is DNA and protein - histones, transcription factors, polymerases, histone acetylases and deacetylases. The regulatory proteins are part of the control of gene expression.
