How would you put this into Vertex Form: y=x^2 +4x?

OpenStudy (precal):

complete the square

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How, if there isn't a "c" value?

OpenStudy (precal):

you do not need a c. take 4 divide it by 2 and square it, what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4/2=2. 2^2=4.

OpenStudy (precal):

ok now in math we can use zero so we will do +4-4 \[y=x^2+4x+4-4\] \[y=(x+2)^2-4\] your vertex is (-2,-4)

Okay. Thanks.
