Remember the first derivative is the slope function. If the slope (first derivative) is positive, the function is increasing. if the slope (first derivative) is negative, the function is decreasing.

a function increases when the derivative >0(graph of f' is above the x axis) and decreases when f'<0(graph of F' is below x axis)
