Is this system consistent or inconsistent? y=-1/2x-1 and y=3x+3

An inconsistent system has no solutions. Using substitution, you can set -1/2x-1=3x+3 and solve for x. You can tell it is a consistent system because each line has a different slope and will therefore intersect at some point, so there will be a solution. Parallel lines have no solutions and are inconsistent systems.
