If: \[11 = 1(\mod 5)\] then isn't this also true? \[11= 1(\mod2)\] just curious, but how do you decide what to mod it by?

the definition for basic congruences states that. . "if n divides (a-b), then a=b(mod n) is congruent. ." try to check your given congruence. .
