OpenStudy (precal):

Ok, Anyone ever seen "Agora" It a movie that feature Hypatia. She is the first mathematician in History. Professor at the University of Alexandria

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, easily one of the worst movies i have ever seen

OpenStudy (anonymous):

although it did include the line "round like an apple" "flat like your head" which they stole from an old bugs bunny cartoon

OpenStudy (precal):

why? I loved it. It did have religious tones. But I love the movie. Did you see the CD that came with it that explained how they made it.

OpenStudy (precal):

round like an apple- where I have seen it multiple times????

OpenStudy (chriss):

Haven't seen the movie, but she was the first important "woman" mathematician... not the first mathematician in history.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i have agora phobia so no i havent even dared to watch it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i though it in the theater about half way through all i could think of was "this movie is premade for mst3k

OpenStudy (precal):

Agora means circle.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

im afraid of circular reasoning, does that count?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol yeah i think i made that same agoraphobia joke after seeing the movie it has "fast action" scenes. couldn't believe it

OpenStudy (precal):

I did not see it in the theater. I bought, it was made by people in spain. It has an international cast

OpenStudy (precal):

Are you sure we are referring to the same movie?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

your talking about gattaca right?

OpenStudy (precal):

no, it is called "Agora" with Rachel Weisz ( think I spelled her last name correctly)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

ohh, i thought i heard you type gattaca; with ethan hawke ....

OpenStudy (precal):

no, my movie involved mathematics

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you have a movie?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@precal i don't mean to be negative if you really liked it then that is good

OpenStudy (precal):

ok, funny the movie I was referring to.......ha ha

OpenStudy (precal):

No, but I like to see movies that have the history of math in the story line

OpenStudy (chriss):

I'm waiting for the new summer blockbuster about Archimedes.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you bought the whole season of numb3rs dintcha

OpenStudy (precal):

no, but I downloaded all of their worksheets. They were sponsored by TI.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i am thinking of a solution that you are obviously to stupid to understand so if I tell it to you with dance and jazz hands you are sure to comprehend it .... and they make a show out of it ...

OpenStudy (precal):

@amistre64 really? guess you miss the whole idea.....guess pi day has no meaning for you..... how sad. This is not a well known movie, just wondering if anyone else saw it and appreciated the math in it....

OpenStudy (amistre64):

im waiting for stephen hawkings sequel to God created the integers to come out on blueray

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i was borned to early for pi day ... 3 days to early

OpenStudy (chriss):

pi day is only an approximation

OpenStudy (amistre64):

3.142012 :)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

close enough for the eyptians

OpenStudy (precal):

I might as well not even mention "Stand and Deliver"

OpenStudy (chriss):

Closer than the Egyptians... the Egyptians had pi at 3.16049

OpenStudy (amistre64):

::shudder:: wasnt that a ghetto movie?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

rainman was a good math movie .. rainman, yeah ... rainman definantly

OpenStudy (amistre64):

but not, ive never seen agora

OpenStudy (precal):

once again, you missed it. First time, students showed that with hard work and dedication -they could pass the AP Calculus exam. They were accused of cheating and they took the test again to prove ETS wrong....

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i hear its a good movie about circles tho

OpenStudy (chriss):

Is that the one with Edward James Olmos?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

Edward Scissorhands ,, yes

OpenStudy (amistre64):

it doesnt have omar eeps in it tho does it

OpenStudy (precal):

Well if you get a chance, check it out- good movie. Yes Stand and deliver has EJ Olmos

OpenStudy (amistre64):

epps? eeps? .... peeps?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i was born so early that they when i went to school they didn't have history

OpenStudy (amistre64):

they learnt it from you

OpenStudy (precal):

www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKq6_vjrxMo @amistre64 Here is a video (e and pi go on a date) Enjoy!!!!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

itd prolly be better if i had sound :/

OpenStudy (precal):

Does the sound not work? or is it your computer?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

do you have it in braille?

OpenStudy (precal):

No, do you need it in braille?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i figure if im going to go blind I gotta start someplace :)

OpenStudy (precal):

not nice, there was once a famous mathematician who went blind but continue to do mathematics.....

OpenStudy (amistre64):

oiler wasnt it

OpenStudy (amistre64):

his post blind days were kinda sketchy :)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

dear? can you come check this for me?

OpenStudy (precal):

I would have to look it up but he also, had a houseful of children

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yeah, died drinking a cup of tea and playing with the grandkids i think

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you know youre old when its not that you know alot of history; its just that you remember being there

OpenStudy (precal):

Have some kids, as they grow, you will see time fly by......
