what is the difference between synchronous and asynchronous motor?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1)for a given frequency, the synchronous motor runs at constant average speed whatever the load be.while the speed of asynchronous. motor falls somewhat with increase in load 2)the syn motor can be operated over a wide range of power factors, both lagging and leading, but induction motor always runs with a lagging p.f with may becomes very low at light weight. 3)a syn motor is inherently not self starting 4) change in applied voltage do not effect syn motor torque but in case asyn they hav much effect 5)a d.c excitation is required by sync motor but not by asyn
