Transcription is the process carried out by a RNA polymerase: the DNA is read and a new strand of messenger RNA is synthesised. Hence the information is transcibed into RNA. This information is translated ie a protein is made at the ribosome using the codons in the open reading frame -ie the bit of the mRNA which codes for the protein.
