Part 1: Explain, using complete sentences, how to simplify the expression below. Part 2: What is the simplified expression? (3x^3 y^4)^2

Well this very much depends on your definition of simplified... If you want to expand it you would could do the following. Rewrite the expression as (3x^3*y^4)*(3x^3*y^4). Then you multiply, making sure to follow FOIL rules (first, outside, inside, last). After that you can add terms.
