Simplify f(x) = 3x² – 4x + 1 over 3x – 1. Using complete sentences, explain why f(1) = 0, f(0) = –1, and f(–1) = 2, yet f(1 over 3) is undefined. Make sure to show your work.
Hi! Are you stuck right at the beginning, or somewhere in the middle? Or have you finished it bug got the wrong answer?
oops, I meant "but"
I just honestly don't get any part of it. And I am seriously on a 84% B and this is worth 25% of my grade so I need all the help I can get because I try hard in this class but just can't cut it. :/ So can you PLEASE help me?
Sure! I normally prefer not to just give the answer, so is it OK if I help you work it out yourself?
Sure, but can you give the answer at the end too please? I have like 5 questions that are just terrible because I don't know any of them and if I get them wrong that's already 40 points off of my assignment so just by that I have a D. :(
Ok. How much time would you like to spend on this question? Obviously, in 1 minute I can give you a straight answer, or in around 10 minutes we can work it out together. Is the second option OK?
Well, I'm timed. :/ Can you give me the answer to just put it in now and then we can work it out after please? Because I need all the work and everything but I'm timed for this. But if I can just turn it inand then you help me figure the problems out after that would be SO helpful.
Because I do virtual school and I don't know where to get tutoring so I can't get any additional help. :/
I'll tutor you now for 20 minutes if you like!
Like, after I turn in my assignment? Or now? By the way, do you think you can help me with a couple of questions? Not just one. It's only 5. :/
I can, but I really don't want to give you answers, not because it means you're cheating your teacher, but because it means I'm cheating you. Instead, let's work through your questions now. Starting with the first one:
Can I assume you know what f(x) means?
Okay, well that will work too. Thank you SO much
You're welcome :D
Ehh, it sounds familiar. But not really. :/
Have you drawn graphs before?
Yeah
Great, so you know that "x" goes along the flat horizontal axis and "f(x)" goes up and down the vertical axis, right?
Oh, okay yeah.
OK. Well, f(x) just means that you can replace "x" with different numbers, and it will give you different answers. For example, this (see below)|dw:1331236561473:dw| means that f(1)=1, f(2)=4, f(5)=25, f(10)=100 etc etc.
