I would say that you should look into an Intro to Data Structures class, like Berkeley's CS61B or Stanford's CS106B(you can watch CS106A, both are freely available). There is the option of Harvard's CS50, it's a more in depth, time consuming course, but I think it's the most rewarding course I have ever watched. They built up from bottom up, explaining what's behind the scene in high-level languages, using C. Then, they introduce web-based apps, using PHP, JavaScript and a database. It's really cool, and there are some special lectures available, with invited lecturers, many of them about web based apps, or smartphone based apps, like apps for iOS and so on. Hope this is helpful in some way.
