Subtract and write the answer in simplest form: 9x/3x-4-12/3x-4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you mean 9x/(3x-4) - 12/(3x-4)? Makes a big difference for order of operations...

no

Well, as written, you have (9x/3x) - 4 - (12/3x) - 4. Let me look at your attachment...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9x is over 3x-4

that's what I wrote first time. OK - so because the denominators are the same, you can simplify as (9x - 12) / (3x - 4). Then, you can simplify the (9x-12) down to 3(3x-4), leaving you with: 3(3x-4) ------- (3x-4) Then you just cancel out the (3x-4)'s, and your answer is 3. :)

thankyou very much!
