Writing 8 Online
OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know when I had to write a paper using MLA, my professor allowed me to quote two sentences (or portions of them) that were close together and had related ideas by putting them in the same quote and putting an ellipsis (...) where I left out some words or sentences. Is that still permissible with the APA style?

Call for jagatuba . . . he's your man. There's a new ping feature here, apparently, but I'm not sure how to use it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry, I'm not familiar with ping, is that a way to e-mail him or something? I don't see Jagatuba as an open study tutor but I really new to this site. Can you give me a little more info?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not sure how it works -- it may only work for those who are currently online, and he is not. If you type the @ sign, a list pops up of folks you can ping. Then somehow a message is sent them. I don't know whether this is in email or here in Open Study. I've tried "@j" and I'm not seeing him in the list. But he is the APA master. He would know for sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, thanks, I'll try coming back to the site several times. Fortunately, I have a bit of time before this paper is due...

Sounds good. He's usually around. He's *very* good. Knows APA inside out. Knows a lot about writing, across many genres. Can work with creative pieces as well. When he's on, he looks through the English and Writing groups and will answer a whole slew of questions. He's also the moderator for this group. He's one you'll definitely want to keep an eye out for and to work with.
