(-11/8, 0), (3/4,0) is at the same distance from the vertex of their parabola. Determine the equation of axis of symmetry.

The answer is supposed to be -5/16 but I keep getting -5/8. I added -11/8 + 3/4 and divided it by 2.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

add up the points and divide by 2

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the only way they are 2 different points and the same distance away is to have the axis of symm runing between them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's what I did and I got -5/8 instead of -5/16.. o.o

OpenStudy (amistre64):

-11/8 3/4 -11/8 6/8 ------ -5/8 now divide in half

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you did not divide in half ...

OpenStudy (amistre64):

add up ... thats what i got; then divide in half

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh..

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yeah, it does no good to stop halfway thru and claim your finished ;)
