brother printers are mid range printers for small business

I've seen alot of lexmarks in bank processing centers and hospitals the tall standup kind

there is a website called versacheck the printers they feature there are good enough to print alot of checks which are high enough quality that the check can be scanned at stores

google key words for purchaing anything or in your case........printer PCMagazine reviews .....remember common people will usually give you the down low on whatever they buy and 2 bad reviews to 3 good reviews does not make a bad product....its like buying a car sometimes a good one rolls off the assembly line and sometimes a bad one does....same in electronics.

finally remember you get what you pay for pick a quality company and spend as much as you can dig out of your pocket
