A friend is having trouble finding the sum of -84 and 28. What explanation would you give to help your friend?

It's still a negative so it's just making it less of a negative basically.

(-56) + (-28) + (28)
(-28) and (28) are opposite of each other and cancel each other out
leaving -56 as the answer
