Factor: x2 + 2x - 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2 - 2x - 15 = 0 This factors into (x-5)(x+3) = 0. So x=5 or -3.

try to do these type of questions urself.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's what this website is for- she should be able to ask questions!

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

of course but its better that the answerer explains the method as well as giving the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeh but I just want her to learn how to do it herself rather her just asking such simple questions which are actually quite easy, and she keeps asking the same type of factorizing questions.

Watch this video and use this formula to factor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EeVqtpuMFOU Then input the numbers that you get out of the formula which are the roots into (x-x1)(x-x2) where x1 is one of the answers and x2 is the other answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this technique will factor any equation that is factorable and it doesn't require much mental work.

But it is definitely a lot slower than just going what two numbers multiply to 15 and can be subtracted or added to 2
