If you want a book that approaches the subject in a conversational manner (an analogue of "Conceptual Physics" for Calculus), I suggest "Calculus for the Utterly Confused" by Robert Oman & Daniel Oman and "Calculus Without Limits - Almost" by John C. Sparks.
