what is the speed of alpha rays, beta rays and gamma rays ???
gamma radiation is electromagnetic in nature, so same speed as light., beta speed ranges from being small to sometimes comparably speed to electromagnetic waves. alpha- one tenth to one hundredth speed of light
The gamma ray has speed equal to light i.e 3*10^8 m/sec.beta rays has less velocity than gamma ray and more than alpha ray due to their mass difference.Due to this gamma ray is high energetic ray than beta and beta ray is that than alpha .gamma ray has high penetrating power than beta than alpha ....
i think it is better to say alpha and beta particle and gamma radiation
means the alpha particle weighs a lot than the beta and beta weighs a lot than the gamma. @ soham can you write the speed of alpha particle numerically
alpha particle has kinetic energy 5Mev and mass is 4u=4*1.66*10^-27kg. calculate the speed of alpha particle using K.E=1/2mv^2.and we get the value of v=1500km/sec.hence the value of speed of alpha ray is 1500km/sec.and gamma is electromagnetic wave and speed of gamma ray is 3*10^8m/sec.And the speed of beta ray due to beta ray is massive particle and it's speed is very less than 3*10^8m/sec
hi aftabali:i think that it is better explanation for your question..
5mev us a general value or a specific sum value?
thanks bro it really makes a lot sense to me, nice explanation my bro :)
@soham and @taufique thank u both of u:)
welcome aftabali....
