The numbers 1 and 19 make 20, as do any pair as you count inward. If you do that for the first three sets (1 and 19, 3 and 17, 5 and 15) you get 60. You want ten less, so you select 9 instead of 19. 1 and 9, 3 and 17, 5 and 15

these are the 6 numbers which makes the sum 50 but the requirement is of only 5 numbers .

but wait all the given numbers are odd and the sum of five odd numbers is also odd i guess so how would we get the 50 ?!!!

What he's saying is that it's not possible with 5 odd numbers, because 5 odd numbers will always add up to an odd number.
