I was reading online that the radiation from Japan spread as far away as Romania...Between Dec-January 2011-2012 I visited my girlfriends parents when I came home the airport security had a Geiger counter and later that week I saw my doctor and he diagnosed me with thyroid disease.....from my life readings I know that radiation can affect the thyroid........How can I check to see what my radiation level is.....why didn't our government warn me about this in their travel advisory on their website? What questions do I ask my doctor to find out if my thyroid problem is due to radiation?

OpenStudy (rogue):

Simply ask your doctor what he/she suspects might be the cause. If he/she doesn't know, he/she can probably run some tests to determine it. Unfortunately, the travel industry will never tell you about these things because its bad for business. All they really care about is money, so... I hope your disease is curable and I hope you get better :)

I went to the walk in clinic and they say the radiation levels in Romania are within tolerable levels......I believe them because we are exposed to natural radiation every day with little or no harmful short term side effects. I will sleep better tonight. Thanks for your input....BTW my thyroid levels are only slightly off. I just had to check with a doctor for peace of mind thanks for your time!
