Solve the system y = x + 2 and y = –x – 3 by using graph paper or graphing technology.

OpenStudy (eyust707):

okay so here we have the function of two lines would you agree?

OpenStudy (eyust707):

if we draw one of the lines on a graph what we essentially draw is every single point that satisfies that equation.. we end up drawing in every single (x,y) value that makes that equation true

OpenStudy (eyust707):

well we want to find the point that satisfies both equations!

OpenStudy (eyust707):

we want the x and y value that works for the first equation and the second one

OpenStudy (eyust707):

that x,y value will be the point where the two lines intersect

OpenStudy (eyust707):

so basically if we graph the two line on graph paper and find the point that the two lines intersect, we will have found the solution to both lines
