Much more work needs to be done to put a 200kg satellite into orbit at an altitude of 3000m than is required to lift an identical object to the same altitude a) extra energy is needed to overcome air resistance b) the satellite also needs to be given orbital velocity c) to go into orbit the centripetal force needs to be overcome as wel as the gravitational force. d) orbital potential energy is measured relative to the earth's centre not the surface
